My first impression is that it is not that different from ReMask 5 so if you have used it in the past, the plugin will be familiar to you. It is also a stand alone program where the selections can be saved as a Transparent PNG file. So the Sumatran Tiger (from the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington, DC) above was my first attempt using the program – I used it as a plugin in Photoshop, which is how I have always used it.

Update: There is a new update out, Version 1.0.2 – if your software does not indicate there is an update, go to the site and download the latest version.

I stand corrected – this is not a free update for past owners – not sure why since the product is very similar to the original – apparently they are giving past owners a discount. Please advise. This week Topaz (for website see sidebar at my Tidbits Blog) unleashed their newest in their lineup of AI products by updating the old Topaz ReMask to Topaz Mask AI. I guess the question is - have I been missing something as far as a PS plugin for ReMask 5 is concerned? This seems to be a standalone version only. Standalone is OK, but as you mentioned Keith, I would also like to use it in PS for applications.

I recently downloaded the free upgrade to ReMask 5 but cannot seem to find a PS plugin for it. I have other masking procedures, but ReMask has always been beckoning me to give it a serious try. I must admit that even though I've had ReMask for two versions I have never worked it enough to become proficient. This would also seem to apply to most links recently posted in the thread. Note: As mentioned in the reviews, any purchase link in my review is an affiliate link (so I get a small cut if you purchase). It is useful though for being able to refine the mask against the background you are using (even if still doing the final work back in PS) Given I'd use it in Photoshop, I'd still prefer to add the new background there, since I've much more control of how the cutout is applied/blended. The biggest change is probably to be able to do background replacement in the plugin.

It also helps to make a layer with colors that allow a good separation from a backdrop, and use that to finish masking.Īs with all tools, there is a learning curve, so I suggest you look at some of the Tutorial videos on their Youtube channel if you want to try it out efficiently before the discount period expires, and get a good idea whether it's something useful for your workflow. That is often a very fast way to create a mask. It is also possible to start with a rough quick selection in PS, make a mask with a bit of feathering, and refine that in Remask. It's not a magic tool, it still requires work to make a good selection mask, and experience does help to get better results faster. The PS quick selection tool isn't bad, but there are more complex selections possible with Remask, especially when transparency is involved.

Remask is one of the better masking tools around, and at half price it's a steal, especially if you do a lot of masking.
